Our Mission. Vision. Values.

Our Mission

MOMMAS is a home for young mothers aged 18 to 24 years and their babies. For approximately two years, the young mothers at MOMMAS House continue education or vocational experience interrupted by pregnancy. With guidance and direction, the young mothers can learn to support themselves and their children independently.

Our Vision

Loving Mothers - Responsible Parents - Strong Families

At MOMMAS House we seek to give a young woman a hand to hold throughout her pregnancy, a safe home to bring her baby to and the opportunity for her to continue her educational or vocational experience often interrupted by poverty and pregnancy.

MOMMAS House exists because there are very few options for pregnant or parenting youth facing homelessness. They need compassionate shelter and a healthy living environment where providing guidance and empathy is just as important as providing food and basic needs. They need access to academic programs, vocational training, life-skills and parenting education to help them become strong independent working mothers. They require the assistance and security we have extended to hundreds of residents since 1986 so that they can, one day, support and protect their own families for a lifetime. Our goals are simple, yet sustainable. We see a future where others have lost hope.

Every young mother who crosses our threshold has the opportunity to achieve her full personal potential, blossom as a loving and responsible parent and become a contributing member of the community.

Every child should experience a mother’s unconditional love and families can thrive in a stable and structured home environment.

Every family, regardless of economic status, deserves the right to enjoy safe and decent housing, to participate in their community and to expect a life full of promise.

 Our Values

At Mommas House…

We believe that the gift of motherhood is precious yet challenging.

We believe in the innate capacity of a mother to love her child and through that love, overcome adversity.

We believe a loving environment helps dispel fear and anxiety as the young mothers face childbirth, motherhood, and a future that seems uncertain.

We believe a completed education – be it a high school diploma, certification, or a college degree - builds self- confidence, self esteem and the ability to be self-supporting.

We believe a dedicated staff that acts as role models for the residents and surrogate grandparents for the babies.

We believe in the continued provision of guidance and encouragement after a young family leaves Mommas House.

We believe investing in these young mothers is an investment in the future of our communities.

We believe in a mothers’ enduring love — strong and unyielding.
